Oldie but Goody I bought the book mainly to get a somewhat comprehensive information about barrel threads since I'm working on converting some actions. The Mauser barrel thread for the large and small ring I was familiar with, but the Martini Enfield or Remington 700 information is/was poor at best. The book included them all, and then some! The original book was written in the 50s, but all information is still relevant for today. The only problem I can see is, after reading the book, some or most will know enough to be dangerous to themselves and others!! What I mean is this: without the fundamental understanding about Gunsmithing or/and metallurgy the amateur/backyard 'Gunsmith' can produce dangerous weapons.

The best way is to take a course or befriend a gunsmith (If you find an 'Oldtimer', they are us ually more inclined to pass on their knowledge and you should consider yourself VERY lucky) and learn, learn, learn!! Once you complete a project or build your own gun, on a Mauser Action for instance, the accomplishment is very rewarding! All in all, this book should be in the library of every gunsmith, amateur or professional!
